Parliament is set to begin the vetting process for the first group of ministerial nominees selected by President John Dramani Mahama today, Monday, January 13, 2025.
The vetting will start with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and current Majority Leader, who has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Finance.
Forson’s nomination comes at a crucial time, as the country faces economic challenges such as rising inflation, a growing public debt, and increasing calls for comprehensive economic reforms.
The vetting process will be conducted by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, which was established on January 9, 2025.
Next, John Abdulai Jinapor, nominated as Minister-designate for Energy, will face the committee. Jinapor, a former Deputy Minister of Energy and seasoned politician, is expected to address pressing issues in Ghana’s energy sector, such as power supply instability, the push for renewable energy, and the sector’s mounting debt.
His vetting will provide insight into his plans to stabilise and modernise the energy sector to meet the needs of Ghana’s growing economy.
The final nominee to undergo vetting will be Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, nominated as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
Ayine, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, is a well-respected legal expert, academic, and former Deputy Attorney-General, known for his expertise in constitutional law.
As the government’s top legal advisor, Ayine will be expected to play a significant role in advancing legal reforms, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring justice for all Ghanaians.
