Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang

President John Mahama has confirmed that Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has made a full recovery from a recent illness and is expected to return to Ghana shortly to resume her official duties.

Speaking during his Thank You Tour in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region, on Friday, May 16, President Mahama expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s improved health and shared positive news about her upcoming return.

“I’m happy to state that I spoke to her yesterday morning, and she will be back in the country before the end of next week. By God’s grace, she is fully recovered and ready to return to her duties,” he said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reportedly fell ill on Friday, March 28, 2025, and sought treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day. On the advice of her doctors, she commenced a three-week medical leave on April 7 and subsequently travelled abroad for further medical care as a precautionary measure.

Her return is expected to inject fresh energy into government operations as she resumes her responsibilities after a period of rest and recovery.

President Mahama’s announcement follows earlier reassurances about the Vice President’s condition, emphasizing that she had been responding well to treatment throughout her time away.
