Accra, Ghana – The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has expressed serious doubts regarding the previous government’s touted infrastructure achievements, specifically its assertion of constructing over 10,000 kilometers of roads during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
Addressing journalists at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, July 30, Mr. Agbodza revealed that a comprehensive nationwide inspection conducted shortly after he assumed office uncovered a significant discrepancy between official claims and the reality on the ground.
“As soon as I assumed office, I went around the country to see the roads in Ghana,” Agbodza stated. “What I saw was that the over 10,000km of roads former President Akufo-Addo claimed he had constructed cannot be found. In fact, not even 1,000 kilometers of good road was seen.”
The Minister’s remarks come amidst ongoing public debate over the actual scope and quality of road infrastructure developed under the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. His comments strongly suggest the necessity for an independent audit to verify the claimed achievements in the sector.
