Robbers have killed a 62-year-old man Mamprusi Bukari on the Walewale-Sariba road in the West Mamprusi municipality of the North East Region.
According to his son, Tahiru Majeed, he was in the company of his father on Wednesday (27 December) to withdraw money at the bank to organise funeral for his grandmother when they got attacked.
“…They stopped us on the roadside and asked us to lie down. We lay down and they came and searched us; they collected our phones,” Majeed recalled the incident.
“They saw some motors coming and they said we should go to the side of the road. The time that we were to lie down, they shot my father. I woke up and I started running and they shot but the bullet didn’t get to me.”
Majeed is appealing to the police to mount check points on that stretch of road to mitigate the incessant robbery attacks.
“What we just need from the police is that we want barriers. They should give us two or three barriers; that one will help us. So, we are just pleading with the commander,” Majeed said.
His father has since been buried in Duu, his hometown.
According to residents, the deplorable nature of some of the roads in the West Mamprusi municipality is contributing to the robbery attacks in the area.
The police are yet to comment on the incident.
