Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi and Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has withdrawn his legal challenge against the GH¢50 million bail imposed on him.

The motion to review the bail conditions, originally filed on May 30, 2025, was scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, June 3, at the High Court in Accra.

However, Wontumi’s legal team formally filed for a withdrawal on Monday, June 2, just a day before the court session.

Wontumi had argued through his lawyers that the bail amount, set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), was excessively burdensome and could obstruct his release.

He remains in EOCO custody following his arrest on May 28, 2025. He is under investigation for alleged involvement in fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.

According to Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai, ongoing inquiries have uncovered alleged ties between Wontumi and an international organised crime syndicate.
