World Athletics has taken proactive steps to combat online abuse targeting athletes by offering year-round protection to 25 highly vulnerable individuals.

The governing body identified these athletes through a four-year study analyzing over 1.4 million social media posts and comments related to major events like the Olympics and World Championships.

The AI-powered protection will be implemented on select social media platforms, shielding athletes from targeted abuse and harmful comments.

World Athletics plans to expand this initiative next year, demonstrating its commitment to athlete well-being.

Lord Coe, President of World Athletics, emphasized the organization’s dedication to athlete welfare: “We will continue to put measures in place to ensure that athletes can confidently and safely engage with social media platforms.”
