Former Black Stars player and current Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito has expressed support for CAF’s decision to revoke the Baba Yara Sports Stadium’s license to host international matches.
Zito believes that the decision will motivate Ghana to improve its football infrastructure.
Following Ghana’s defeat to Angola and CAF’s ruling on September 11, Ghana will be forced to play its upcoming matches against Sudan outside the country.
Zito acknowledged that while the decision may be inconvenient, it presents an opportunity for Ghana to improve its facilities.
He drew a comparison to his experience in Rwanda, where he observed that Ghana’s facilities were significantly behind those in other African countries.
In response to CAF’s ban on the Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to request an inspection of the Legon Stadium as a potential alternative venue.
The Legon Stadium was recently renovated for the 2023 African Games and has hosted various football matches.
