Former Vice-President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has urged the current administration to “keep faith” in coach Otto Addo, despite Ghana’s difficulties in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars are on a four-match winless streak under Addo and risk failing to qualify for the continental tournament for the first time since 2004. Ghana currently sits third in Group F with just two points from a possible 12.
“I am not among those calling for Otto’s dismissal. We need to support him and allow him to continue the process he has started, especially with the World Cup qualifiers ahead,” Afriyie stated.
He added, “As we move forward in these AFCON qualifiers, we should accept that qualification may be out of reach and let Otto make his own decisions, learning from the experience as we progress.”
To keep their hopes alive for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana must win their final two qualifiers against Angola and Niger in November, while hoping that Sudan, currently second with seven points, slips in their remaining matches. Angola has already secured qualification with 12 points, while Niger sits at the bottom with just one point.
