Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has committed his future to the club by signing a new three-year contract extension. The deal, which will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2027, comes ahead of Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
“I feel extremely proud, very excited, and am looking forward to what is coming next,” said Arteta. “I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here.”
Since taking over as Arsenal’s manager in December 2019, Arteta has guided the club to significant progress. He led them to FA Cup victory in the 2019-20 season and has consistently challenged for the Premier League title in recent years.
Arsenal’s co-chairman, Josh Kroenke, expressed his delight at Arteta’s contract extension, praising his “dynamic and passionate” leadership. “He has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values, and since joining us as head coach in December 2019, he has taken the team to another level in an Arsenal way,” Kroenke said.
Gunners sporting director Edu added that Arteta’s new deal provides the club with “stability and clear direction as we aim for new heights.”
Arsenal’s strong start to the 2023-24 season, with three wins from their first three matches, has further solidified Arteta’s position as a successful manager. The club’s recent signings, including Raheem Sterling, Mikel Merino, and Riccardo Calafiori, have also strengthened their squad.
While Arsenal have come close to winning the Premier League title in recent years, they have yet to secure their first top-flight championship since the 2003-04 season. Arteta’s new contract signals the club’s belief in his ability to lead them to that elusive title.
