Hearts of Oak’s rollercoaster ride in the Ghana Premier League continued on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw, failing to build on last Tuesday’s win against Accra Lions.
The Phobians dropped points once again at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving fans concerned about the team’s inconsistent performance.
Despite fans’ hopes for another victory following a recent win against Accra Lions, Berekum Chelsea’s resilient display frustrated Hearts of Oak. The draw, coupled with a late equaliser from Hearts of Oak’s Gideon Asante in the 71st minute, extended the team’s streak of just one win in their last five games.
Emmanuel Essien provided Chelsea with the lead in the first half, and despite Hearts of Oak’s efforts, the away side managed to hold on for a point, even after defender Lord Amoah was sent off late in the game.
The draw leaves Hearts of Oak in sixth place, tied with rivals Kotoko, who also have 16 points. Both teams trail fourth-placed Berekum Chelsea by four points and are five points behind league leaders Aduana FC.
In other matches, Aduana FC maintained their position at the top of the table despite a surprise 1-0 loss to Accra Lions. Nsoatreman failed to take advantage of Aduana’s slip-up as they drew 0-0 with bottom-placed Heart of Lions, while Samartex secured a 2-1 victory over Real Tamale United.
